Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Short DescriptionThe Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association is committed to fostering, cultivating and preserving a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Our human capital is the most valuable asset we have. The collective sum of the individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities and talent that our volunteers invest in their work represents a significant part of not only our culture, but our reputation and achievement as well.

We embrace and encourage differences in age, color, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our volunteers unique.

We also acknowledge the list of protected classes in California:
– color
– ancestry
– national origin
– religion
– sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, and related medical conditions)
– disability: Physical or mental
– age (40 and older)
– genetic information
– marital status
– sexual orientation
– gender identity and gender expression
– AIDS/HIV
– medical condition
– political activities or affiliations
– military or veteran status, and
– status as a victim of domestic violence, assault, or stalking

Our culture encourages and enforces:
— Respectful communication and cooperation between all volunteers.
— Teamwork and participation, permitting the representation of all groups and perspectives.
— Contributions to the communities we serve to promote a greater understanding and respect for the diversity.

All attendees and volunteers have a responsibility to treat others with dignity and respect at all times. All Board Members are expected to exhibit conduct that reflects inclusion during meetings, at sponsored functions, and at all other participative events. Anyone found to have exhibited any inappropriate conduct or behavior against others may be subject to removal.

Those who believe they have been subjected to any kind of discrimination that conflicts with the organization’s diversity policy and initiatives should seek assistance from the association’s President or board.

Waiver of Liability Relating to CORONAVIRUS/COVID-19

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization. COVID-19 is reported to be extremely contagious. The state of medical knowledge is evolving, but the virus is believed to be transmitted by spread person-to-person contact and/or by droplets or aerosols in the air, and possibly contact with contaminated surfaces and objects. People reportedly can be infected and show no symptoms and therefore spread the disease. The exact methods of spread and contraction are unknown. Evidence has shown that COVID-19 can cause serious and potentially life threatening illness and even death.

The Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association, the Board of Directors, and the City of Manhattan Beach cannot prevent you from becoming exposed to, contracting, or spreading COVID-19 while attending its event and/or entering onto premises where events are held. It is not possible to guarantee against the presence of the disease. Therefore, if you choose to attend an event organized by the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association and enter onto premises where its events are held, you may be exposing yourself to and/or increasing your risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK: I understand the above warning concerning COVID-19. I hereby choose to accept the risk of contracting COVID-19 for myself in order to attend a Hometown Fair Association event and enter the premises. The event is of such value to me that I accept the risk of being exposed to, contracting, and/or spreading COVID-19 in order to attend in person.
